Tom West is a classically trained artist that became intrigued and dedicated to abstraction during his time at Princeton University. He studied under prominent artists who were at the time based in New York, including Sean Scully, Elizabeth Murray, Jeremy Gilbert-Rolf and Frances Barth. In his practice, West has continued to explore abstract oil painting on various surfaces and media, from paper to ply-wood panels to cigar boxes. His work exemplifies the unique process of abstraction in which all content is articulated from his own visual experience, not from nature or reality. The creative process begins with no reference to anything other than his own imagined sense of composition, color, and shape.

Thomas West holds a BA in Art and Architecture from Princeton University. He has exhibited at the Princeton University Art Museum, the Art Barn, Rock Creek Gallery, Kellogg Collection, and the Quirk Gallery. He has been represented by the Barbara Kornblatt Gallery, Washington DC and currently works in his home studio based in Maryland. His work is held in private collections across the United States.
